There’s no more messing around as we work to figure out who is among the best this season and who can’t hang with the contenders.

Week 5 is a big one for many high school football teams.

Here are five matchups I will be keeping an eye on.

Seffner Christian (4-0) at Cambridge Christian (4-0)

Here are two undefeated Class 2A teams who are rivals in District 5A. At 4-0, both teams have looked strong thus far.

Cambridge Christian will welcome Seffner Christian to Skyway Park on Friday night in a game that I fully expect to be close. The Crusaders have been able to get the job done on the ground even without Karmi Mackey as Tyrell Carter and Jacob Mclaughlin have combined for 12 touchdowns. As for Cambridge, they have running back Andrew Cunningham, who is always a threat to take one to the house.

Prediction: Cambridge Christian 31, Seffner Christian 27

Armwood (3-1) at Blake (3-1)

This is another fine battle in the bay area with Armwood coming off a tough loss to Plant and Blake fresh off a win over undefeated Middleton.

In a Class 6A-District 7 game, this one will be filled with a ton of energy and fight. Blake’s offense doesn’t have the weapons that Armwood has but if the Yellow Jackets can slow them down defensively there is still hope. The Hawks simply have too much talent on both sides of the ball.

Prediction: Armwood 35, Blake 20

Berkeley Prep (2-1) at Tampa Catholic (1-2)

Even though the Crusaders enter this week with a losing record, last Friday’s surprising win over Clearwater Central Catholic should give them confidence moving forward. A Class 3A-District 4 tilt will be a lot of fun to watch.

Gordon Stetson will carry the load for the Buccaneers while TC will rely heavily on Devan Barrett. It should be an entertaining matchup.

Prediction: Tampa Catholic 27, Berkeley Prep 17

Plant City (3-1) at Tampa Bay Tech (4-0)

It’s a tough task for Plant City to upset a Tampa Bay Tech team that has been very good this season. Along with Durant, the three teams are still undefeated at 2-0 in Class 7A-District 9.

I can see Plant City hanging around for a while, but quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is simply too good under center to be slowed down.

Prediction: Tampa Bay Tech 24, Plant City 17

Clearwater (3-0) at Northeast (4-0)

Last but not least, we have a fine matchup out in St. Petersburg between two undefeated teams. Clearwater and Northeast are both very good programs with weapons on both sides of the ball.

The x-factor for the Tornadoes has to be wide receiver and Tennessee commit Jacquez Jones. This should be the closest game on this list as these teams are evenly matched.

Prediction: Clearwater 27, Northeast 23

Jesuit at Middleton
Sarasota at Venice
Seminole at St. Pete
Bartow at Lakeland
